1992 Porsche 911 (964) Carrera RS

The 964 Carrera RS is to many the perfect 911. As with all 964s, it blends the best of old-school 911s with some modern features and the Carrera RS with it’s lower weight, NA air-cooled engine and rear-wheel drive, means it has everything to make it one of the most enjoyable 911s.

The first Carrera RS was the 2.7-litre from 1973, an iconic model created to homologate the 911 for racing that introduced the famous ducktail spoiler. Close to 20 years later Porsche revived the Carrera RS badge with the 964 and the formula remained the same.

It uses the same 3.6-litre NA flat-6 from the base Carrera with an additional 10hp which meant power reached 260hp, the biggest change however was the weight reduction. As a homologation special, Porsche’s focus was to make it as light as possible. More aluminium and thinner glass was used, the rear seats, power steering and power windows were removed, insulation was reduced and it got Cup lightweight magnesium racing wheels. This resulted in a weight of just 1,225kg, a reduction of almost 130kg. The chassis received reinforcement as well as stiffer suspension which reduced ride height by 40mm.

This particular example is equipped with a 6-speed gearbox.

The 964 Carrera RS is an analog driver’s car and is a certain member of any collection, not just the 911 enthusiasts’ collection.
