The 2000GT is considered by many as Japan’s first supercar and one of the country’s most collectable cars.
It was born from Toyota’s wish to have a halo car to showcase their capability to create a performance car and display their technological prowess. Until then they were known for making ordinary cars such as Crowns and Coronas but realised that other manufacturers had flagships represent the company. They did this in collaboration with Yamaha, who were in-charge of engine performance, chassis and body design.
